Nail and Thread Portraits by Kumi Yamashita

Kumi Yamashita has created a new series of portraits made with nails and thread called Constellation. She makes the portraits from wooden panels that are painted white, thousands of small nails, and one long piece of sewing thread. By wrapping the thread in a labor-intensive pattern that eventually draws out faces, she is able to create light and shadow by varying the amount of thread she uses in different parts of the portrait.
