The technological advances of the ‘90s felt super futuristic: everything was getting smaller, better, sharper, and simultaneously more affordable. There were some things reserved for those who had serious coin, but dropping a lot of loot on the latest gadget didn’t mean it had any staying power.

Many of the innovations of the ‘90s were pretty one-dimensional, and most of us now carry a cell in our pockets that does pretty much everything on the list. Just like being the first guy in the neighborhood to have a waterbed in the ‘80s, whipping out a two-way pager or flicking open a flip phone was a status symbol not that long ago. These ‘90s gadgets may seem archaic now, but we wouldn’t have the technology we do today without them.
